This Live Culture set is not just welcome, but long overdue. For over two decades, Joseph Hill (aka Culture--you never know when he'll turn up solo, or with one or two harmony singers) has been an indefatigable performer. He has proven himself time and time again to be one of reggae's most consistently appealing live acts, blessed with urgent, grainy vocals and a captivating wild-man persona that feeds off audience energy. This recording's collection of enduring anthems like "Two Sevens Clash," "Zion Gate," "International Herb," and 15 others, captures the brilliant lyricist with an anecdotal bent at his best, obliterating the boundaries between stage and pulpit. --Elena Oumano

CD Reviews

Overdue and nice

"Joseph Hill continues to front various pairings of people to keep the name Culture alive in reggae circles. he really shoul not concern himself with such matters- so long as he continues to produce his trademark deep, spiritual brand of reggae, no matter what the trend is, Culture will always have a happy place in the hearts of many. This live cd is surprisingly good- I don't mean that in terms of Culture themselves, as they always are great- but I am always very suspicious of live recordings as a rule. this live lp has good recording technique done on it, and is quite clean and easy to listen to.I normally do not recommend live lps, but Culture fans- be they those like me who love! love! love! their classic "Two Sevens Clash" lp, or newer fans who are discovering Hill's beautiful world- will all bask in this wonderful live lp. Well worth a listen."

"This is the the best "Culture" album that Ive heard yet! I had the pleasure of seeing Joseph Hill & co. live a few years ago and they were Hot. I cant seem to get this cd out of my car stereo ,the live "two sevens clash" is the shit! Reggae music in my opinion is best "live", so when I found out Culture just released this one I knew it would be good, and I wasnt surprised to find it great! Culture never sold out to the Shitstem they have remained a solid force in the "Roots", "Rock","REGGAE" for over 20 years ,much respect my breddrens, One love! Magadogx13 10/06/98"
