CD Reviews

Great overview of their post-Buddy years with Liberty
Thomas J. Diehl | Rensselaer, NY United States | 08/17/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've been a fan of the post-Buddy Holly crickets ever since I was sent a promo 45 of one of their singles by accident by an ebay seller. I wanted to hear more so hunted down a reissued import lp of the album the two songs came off of. I liked the entire album and wanted to hear more. I was told about this cd, and was given a copy of it, and I fell in love with mostly everything on here.

Since this cd is part of the "Capitol Collectors Series" you will find that many of the tracks have been remixed by Ron Furmanek from the session tapes (and two songs have studio chatter in the beginning to prove it). There are three previously unreleased recordings on this cd (though i think they shouldve all been released).

I thought long and hard about my favorite songs on this cd, but i just cannot pick a few...in fact, i cant even pick a few that i DON'T like! This entire cd is very very good....if you're a fan of Buddy Holly or Bobby Vee, this cd is for you (in fact the Crickets did an album with Bobby Vee on Liberty at one point but none of those songs are represented here). This is by no means a complete collection by the Crickets on Liberty, it's an overview with many songs to pick from. For someone not very familiar with their post-buddy holly music done for the Liberty label, this cd would be perfect, and if you like it you can try to hunt down the rest of the cds of their Liberty music that include the other songs not found on this cd, in fact one of my favorites (Blue Blue Day from the Something Old Something New Something Blue Something Else!!! lp, of which 6 of its 12 songs are represented here) was not included on this cd, but that doesn't stop me from liking it any less. You can usually find this cd for under $20 which is a real bargan for 31 songs that are all great, you will not find too many cds with that many songs that are all good for that price."
