Synopsis

Amazon.com essential recording
Bluegrass star Alison Krauss has resisted many offers to move from Boston's small indie label, Rounder Records, to a big Nashville company, but her good friends in the Cox Family have made just that journey for Just When We're Thinking It's Over. Krauss is involved as guest fiddler, arranger and producer, and she calls on many past and present members of her own Union Station band to help out in the studio. There are drums on every song, and the material is a mix of originals, hard-core bluegrass, mainstream country and oldies. Nonetheless, the distilled rural purity of the previous Cox Family and Krauss albums is maintained, thanks to the spare, understated arrangements. --Geoffrey Himes

Amazed and Delighted

"My only previous exposure to the Cox Family was from their appearances in the Down From the Mountain tour and their gospel collaboration with Allison Krauss "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow." I was a little surprised to hear a more upbeat "country" sound on this CD than "bluegrass" but I like both genre's and the CD is produced so well that that I really enjoy it! I was amazed and delighted that they seem to be stretching themselves a bit musically. I would call it "polished" rather than "slick" as one commenter did. Like another reviewer, I too am in love with Suzanne Cox's voice. She is not featured as often as I would like -- the whole family takes part, but that's OK. Everyone sounds great.
They harmonize so well together.I am now looking to buy two more CDs from the Cox Family, that's how much I like them."

"The Cox Family just doesn't make a bad sound on anything they do. First heard them on the "OH, Brother" soundtrack. I've now ordered all four of their listed CD's. Have loved Country music all my long life, and other music. This group is my all time favorite music. Hope they never change their style. I can't begin to explain what beautiful musicians they are. Please make many more CD's...!!"
