"This collection is a wonderful representation of what I believe is the greatest big band Count Basie ever assembled. The period of the mid-50's to early 60's had a groove that no band has ever matched, though some other bandleaders such as Harry James certainly tried. Frank Wess, Frank Foster, Freddie Green, Sonny Payne, Thad Jones,etc rival any lineup Basie ever put together.

I am guessing that much of this material was originally found on the Roulette label. If you want to hear some of the finest big band that ever lived, look no further than right here. If you do not have any Count Basie from this period, this is a MUST."
