Digitally remastered edition of the complete classic 1958 album plus bonus tracks. Basie Plays Hefti was the follow up to the celebrated LP The Atomic Mr. Basie, which also presented arrangements and tunes by Neil Hefti. With the obvious exception of the tunes from the Atomic album, our bonus tracks present all other existing songs featuring Basie playing music composed and arranged by Hefti recorded between 1952 and 1958, and taken from various rarely heard and difficult to find studio sessions. "Count Basie plays Hefti is an album I have long been on the lookout for.

Neal Hefti's arrangement of "Coral Reef" started me on jazz all those years ago when I used to listen to VOA's "Music USA" on shortwave radio. "Coral Reef" was one of the music themes used. Since then I have always looked for Neal Hefti's arrangement particularly with Basie.

A great album of Hefti arrangements played as only Count Basie's band can.

Memorable indeed."
