CD Reviews

Very solid
Bonham.45 | Chucktown, SC | 09/25/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The sophomore album from the Floridian melodic death metal band Council of the Fallen. It is much like their great debut, Revealing Damnation, but this time with a better, clearer production from none other that Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Morbid Angel). Though Derek Roddy isnt behind the drum kit this time around, no need to despair because Tim Yeung filled in. Tim, who also played on the Decrepit Birth and Hate Eternal debut albums, is one of the best extreme drummers out there today and pulls out a great performance on this album. The rest of the band is highly skilled at their instruments also. Ignore the one star review, he listens to 'nu metal', hence his opinion doesnt matter.

Also recommended:

Dissection - Storm Of The Light's Bane (get it...blackened death metal at its finest)

The Forsaken - Manifest of Hate (one of the best metal bands out there)

Cryptopsy - Once Was Not (essential technical death metal)

"Council of the Fallen follows up on their debut album with this release and doesn't fail to impress. The production quality of Deciphering the Soul is brilliant. Fans of bands like Hate Eternal will really get into Council of the Fallen. If you decide to get Revealing Damnation AND Deciphering the Soul, make sure you listen to the debut first and you'll hear the difference - Erik Rutan really has done a great job on this follow-up release...

Fans of quick, technical death metal that doesn't sacrifice heaviness for speed will be pleased they added this to their collection..."
