Beny More/Conjunto Matamoros- "Buenos Hermanos"

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Around 1942, while staying in Havana a young/rookie cuban singer, native of Santa Clara province in central Cuba, named Bartolome Maximiliano More, joined the famed Conjunto Matamoros as a singer. Bartolome had been singing with "Mozo"Borgella's Conjunto Cauto and was requested to fill in as a singer for Miguel Matamoros, due to a temporary strep throat condition which affected Matamoros'voice. Impressed by young Bartolome's singing style, Matamoros invited him to permanently join his group and Bartolome accepted. About 3 years later, Matamoros went on a tour to Mexico, taking his young singer Bartolome along. After the tour was over Bartolome informed Matamoros that he would be staying in Mexico to pursue a soloist singing career. It was then when Ciro, a fellow singer and prominent member of the Conjunto advised Bartolome that "he could stay, but he should go under a more "artistic" surname.Almost immediately the name "BENY" surfaced and from then on the name "BENY MORE" became internationally famous. The recordings on this CD are Beny's first ever. They were recorded for the RCA Victor label in Cuba from 1942 through 1945. They are a valuable collector's item."
