The Condors Soar!
Martin Banner | Falls Mills, VA United States | 04/11/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Well, gloriosky, pop fans! Here's an American band not afraid to play real rock n' roll in an era when it's more about hair gel, corporate synergy and MTV-hyped bores than slamming out power chords, catchy harmonies and crunchy hooks. The Condors pack a wallop with a sound that casually blends the influences of The Kinks, The Who, John Fogerty, The Small Faces, The Jam, Cheap Trick, The Plimsouls, Stiff Little Fingers and Elvis Costello into a musical stew that is tasty, indeed. Their fine TALES OF DRUNKENESS AND CRUELTY (a snarky Kinks reference for the ignorami out there) is a record to play in the dark night of the soul or the bright sunshine of the day. Either way, you're covered. If you ever needed a reason to believe in the bloated corpse of rock 'n' roll again, The Condors are it."
I've been playing this CD over and over again.

"The Kinks reference in the title hints at the well-crafted tunes and intelligent lyrics you'll find when you take a listen to this CD. The songs are reminiscent of Paul Westerberg, Graham Parker, Elvis Costello and, yes, Ray Davies. But, these guys aren't English pub-crawlers. The Condors perform their own brand of all-American rock with a good dose of pop thrown in. They could easily be the ultimate bar band, with original songs that will have you alternately dancing with joy and then crying in your beer over a long lost love. This CD is worth not one listen, but many."
