"Con Funk Shun is a Very Strong Well-Contained Band.Michael Cooper is Still Super Bad what a Great Talent&Mind.this Band Really Shines Here on The Up-Tempo&Slow-Jams.Juicy was the cut as is By Your SIde,Got to Be Enough. This Album Has a Strong Earth,Wind&Fire Vibe.which Speaks Volumes Of Quality."
The Spirit Of High Quality Retro Funky Soul

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Having already long ago fully digested what Con Funk Shun albums are in print (I have their two greatest hits volumes and two studio albums)'Spirit Of Love' comes as wonderful surprise from 1980.The 'hit' "Got To Be Enough" is very indicative of most of this album-smooth,uptempo funky soul in the heavy EWF'ish mode CFS do so well. The title cut and "Happy Face" follow suit. That's because these people can WRITE THE HELL out of a song! And I think the final cut "Lovestruck 1980" is great-a very clever fusion of horn heavy funk groove and eurodisco production elements-kind of Con Funk Shun's answer to "Boogie Wonderland".

As is more then indicated by their name their is still room for rootsy funk on "Curtain Call" and smooth 'quiet storm' balladry on "Honey Wild".The music on 'Spirit Of Love' will make you want to do a dance, bop your head, move from side to side and it might even woo you and your lover in parts. After all isn't that what this kind of music is all about. For the serious music fan the instrumentation here is so fantastic you'll be in awe of that too.So this really works in all areas."
A CLASSIC!...

"What can I say. Back in the day, CON FUNK SHUN definitely was "no joke". Within their stream of works there were six classic-albums that no serious R&B collection would be complete without and "SPIRIT OF LOVE" is one of them."
