"Peter Planyavsky is one of the giants of modern organ. My exposure to him is more personal than through his recordings. The first time I heard this Viennese artist perform was a 1996 live concert featuring two works by Mendelssohn. Planyavsky is one of the most knowledgeable, prolific and versatile interpreters of 19th and 20th Century organ music, and a truly astounding improvisationist. Mendelssohn's organ works were heavily influenced--moreso than his peers--by J. S. Bach, as many musicologists know. If you've heard Bach-like interpretations of Mendelssohn, or strictly Romantic, you need to hear the more appropriate, dynamic renderings by Planyavsky."
