"Combichrist is in one of those spaces right now where they are probably becoming to popular for the elitists in the industrial scene to like anymore, but not quite popular enough outside of it yet either. However, I doubt this bothers Mr. Andy Pelgua, mastermind behind Combichrist and several other electronic projects.

You see, i'm pretty sure he has no BS illusions about being a dark poet or tortured, or overly self important as alot of groups in the ebm genre tend to get. I'm willing to bet he knows that he's a party band. Combichrist is all about the "get crazy" element of things.

A few parts of this album come off as angry, but even if its a party hard ebm group, its still hard ebm. However a great deal of it(at least to me) feels tongue in check enough to pass though. Essentially, if VNV are supposed to be the spiritual successors of Front 242, Combichrist is probably the successor to something like the Revolting Cocks.

People expecting yet another "everybody hates you" are probably in for some disapointment. Less goofy samples, more straight vocals on this one. At places however it does seem a bit less Combichrist and more like a harder version of one of his other bands, Icon of Coil, or more like his pre-Everybody Hates You Combichrist work from the album "the Joy of Gunz", except of cours with more straight up vocals. Alot of people will probably be angry about the changes however, but I think it would be more boring if he had just done the same album over and over. You can at least tell he's making some progress, and breathing some fun into the often stale genre of ebm style industrial.

"Up until last year, I wasn't really familiar with Combichrist. I knew that it wsa one of Andy LePeglua's bands outside of Icon of Coil. I bought Everybody Hates You prior to last fall's KMFDM concert to get an idea what the band sounds like. I really enjoyed what I heard on "Everybody Hates You" but it was their live performance that really made me a big fan of the band's music. The song that really stood out for me at the concert was the thunderous "Get Your Body Beat". The song was both aggressive and melodic. I was so glad to see that the song is included on the new Combichrist album "What the F*ck is Wrong with You People?". Prior to the release of the new album, I heard samples of the new music and I really enjoyed what I heard and knew that it was going to be something special. I finally got the album today and I enjoyed it as much as "Everybody Hates You". The music was in your face and energetic. I do though think that it could have been even better if it wasn't so long. I absolutely love the title track, "Electrohead" and "In the Pit". The songs made me want to get up and dance. I loved all the songs but I do think some of them needed some serious editing but otherwise, great album."

"I agree w/ the review below, so what if they go in a different direction. There are at least 5 songs that are in the spirit of EHY, and besides, their EP's seem more techno than EHY or JoG, so it's not like they've been doing the same thing for 5 years now.

The double album second CD is also a great treat, continually mixed, not as mellow as Everybody Hates You's second CD."

"I bought this album because Amazon recommended it as similar to something else I had looked at. I thought, wow, great name and when I listened to the sound clips I was impressed with how "hard" and in your face it is. I liked the electronic buzz saw sounds. Then I got the album and listened to it and was less impressed. All the songs sound very similar to one another. Some are slightly slower, some slightly faster, but most have the same unpunctuated screaming. I like screaming, really love it sometimes. But it seems most powerful when used as an accent as opposed to a constant voice stream. I suppose if you liked some of the early 80s punk that used that same style then you might appreciate this. The other thing that disappointed me, probably even more, is that nothing interesting ever happens with the beats or drums. It's just the same doop-doop-doop-doop over and over again. I guess it makes a steady beat to dance to (but isn't this stuff too fast for that?) but it's not very interesting to listen to after the second song.

So now that I come back and I'm reading the other reviews I learn that apparently I am the least knowledgeable person in the world about this band/person/style of music. There are all sorts of acronyms to describe it, like EBM ("Electronic Body Music"), and I saw a couple others in the other reviews that I wasn't sure if they were other bands or other musical styles or what. And yet, without spending an hour-and-a-half on Wikipedia researching all this stuff it does nothing to tell me whether I'll like it or not.

If you're like me and you're not part of some underground Combichrist scene, but you're looking for some kickass music, then this might not be the best place to get it. I liked the sound clips but was disappointed when I got it by the repetitive nature of the music and the lack of creativity with the beats or instrumentation. Same 2 synth sounds used for every song. Still, not the worst stuff I've heard. I just tire of it easily."
