Synopsis

Album Description
A prelude to the audio plague they'll unleash later this year. Here are seven versions of the title track, along with a remix of "Products" and two b-sides. Infectiously intense EBM beats and melodies accented by bits of power noise electronics, Andy LaPlegua's easily discernable vocals, and techno music elements make this EP a buzz worthy teaser for the new album.

CD Reviews

Self-Described as Techno Body Music (Which is a good label)
M. Mierzwa | Davis, CA USA | 09/21/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"About the Band:

Fronted by Norwegian Andy LaPlegua, the vocalist behind the late 1990s electronic body music (EBM) act Icon of Coil, CombiChrist was designed to be a more aggressive outlet for LaPlegua. Though the band is sometimes described as powernoise, as a powernoise fan I disagree with that label and feel terror EBM is a better label - but this is not passing any judgement on the band. In fact, CombiChrist became very popular in 2003 and follows in the footsteps of other terror EBM bands such as Suicide Commando or Hocico.

About the Album:

Get Your Body Beat is an extended single, which contains 7 versions of the title track as remixed by a number of currently well known electronic body music / industrial musicians. The first version of the title track is titled "album version", implying that this version may later appear on LaPlegua's forthcoming full-length album. Of the three additional tracks, two "What the fcuk" and "DNA am" are exclusive to this single (this does not mean that these tracks will not later be released elsewhere).

Recommended Tracks:

- Get Your Body Beat (Remix) by Spetsnaz - track 6

- Get Your Body Beat (album version) - track 1

- DNA Am - track 10

- Get Your Body Beat (Tortured Remix) by Manufactura - track 8

Of the tracks listed, I actually like the Spetsnaz remix the best. I've never heard them before, but the track itself has an old school (late 1980s) EBM feel to it and actually seems very dance-friendly. The album version also has a similar sound, but not nearly as dated (in this case, I like the dated sound a bit better). In fact, when I first heard the album version played in a club I thought it was Fixmer/McCarthy and not LaPlegua. Though I've described CombiChrist as a terror EBM act, this single more similar to the older styled EBM bands. Finally the last track, "DNA Am" reminded me more of the type of rhythmic noise I enjoyed on C/A/T's debut EP "Worldwide Totalitarian Control".

Overall, LaPlegua's "Get Your Body Beat" shows considerable artistic growth for an already talented artist. I like some of the tracks, but don't like listening to the tracks in order. Forutnately this disc is priced as a single (read cheap) and amazon does have samples that you can listen to before making your purchase. I'm highly recommending you listen to those samples to decide if Get Your Body Beat is for you or not. I've listed the track numbers along with their official names. I'm happy with my copy, and even more interested in hunting down more music by Spetsnaz.
