CD Reviews

Haunting. well worth buying

"First off, Rather than try to catagorize and compare this album, let me suggest looking them up on MP3.com or their label's website and taking a quick listen, you will not regret it. Now on too the real review. I was fortunate enough to discover collide sometime ago, before their albums were availible on the general market. The only reason I don't rate this album a solid 5 stars is the fact that while every track is GOOD, they are not all up to the pure brilliance that is displayed in "razor sharp" and "ocean". In other words, Collide still has a feeling of not yet having fully developed, and while this still bloomming product is 10x better than 90% of the music out there, one is left wondering "If this is what they are making now, how incredible will they be at their full potential?!" In case that seems overly negative, let me spell my intent out. BUY THIS CD!"

"This is an amazing CD. What it is is techno/goth pop/rock with a slightly industrial feel. It's dark but definetly not depressing or disturbed, so it's far easier to listen to. Combine the sweet, dark and whispery vocals of kaRIN with statik's beautifully layered electronic backgrounds. The songs are all slightly similar, but they all stand out from the other in some way.1 transfer= 4.5/5 A great electronic dance song with a mild gothic feel. The only problem is that it's a little annoying, especially when you get through the whole song.2 wings of steel= 5/5 Probably the most gothic song on the CD. Also the deepest song. Great vocals.3 razor sharp= 5/5 Wow. I cant get enough of this song. when karin enters the song her voice is (I truly don't know what it's called) but the same effect is used in this as in cher's Beleive. But when the choras begins and the effect is taken off it gives a feeling that you are very close to something.4 dreamsleep= 4/5 Too much pop influince here for me.5 white rabbit= 4/5 Good additional guitar and vocals on this song. 6 frozen= 4/5 This song is lacking some originality.7 halo= 5/5 This is my favorite song on the cd. It has a great beat and a mid-eastern dance feel. It is reminiscent of the more industrial "beneath the skin"8 monochrome= 5/5 A goth/dance song. Great for dancing too. It's a little trip- hop influenced too.9 ocean= 4.5/5 A pretty fair song. I enjoy the drums. Great lyrics too.10 like you want to believe= 4.5/5 This showcases the more alternative side of the group. It is one of the songs with the additional guitar. This Cd is a must-have for anyone who likes dark techno goth pop that can easily be danced too. Also check out the more unheared of group Deep Red's "darkwaterS" 5/5 stars. Definitely."
