Synopsis

Album Description
Literate guitar-based indie rock compared to Pink Floyd, REM, Neil Young and Elvis Costello, Cloud Party's "real" is a thematic, virtual "live" album. The album was recorded druing a live internet broadcast and heavily augmented in the studio. Searing, tasteful guitar-work,reminiscient of David Gilmour or Mark Knopfler, highlights this CD,along with intelligent and emotinal lyrics that read as poetry. There has been a lot of talk lately about "a return to guitar-based rock'n'roll" but most of that is just watered-down punk or grunge. Cloud Party, however, is the real deal. This album is full of emotion, feel, touches of folk. Some tracks, like "Shadow of an Angel," are soaring ballads that delve the dark side of reality, while others, like "All These Useless Truths" are driving rock songs that question the very nature of what's real. And while some tracks are certainly radio-friendly, there is nothing watered down or edited for television here

CD Reviews

Brain Candy or Mind Bomb?
The Cigar Man | Burleson, Texas United States | 11/12/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Very good disc I really enjoyed it and will continue to do so. These guys are good! As a band they lack in no areas, great songs, great lyrics, and great musicianship! The drummer
is solid and has some great fills. The lead guitarist is original, very much so and very enjoyable to listen to. Matter fact the whole disc is. At times they seem to come off as
cynical and disillusioned, which personally I love! I would almost venture to say atheistic, but don't quite think so. This is more along the lines of a disillusioned person/artist. One
who has seen too much of the emptiness and foolishness of most organized religions. Maybe I am reading too much into this though? It just seems to come off, at times, as taking "jabs". Mind you, I only say all this because, I feel a lot of the same ways. Where were you Jim Speese when I needed this 2 years ago? Love the line in "Shadow of an angel", "And I know you're right here with me, like the distance in the night. Like the
shadow of an angel, you cast your absence in my life." "Used To Be" is great, sounds very REM. I can't stand REM, but I dig this song and it's sound. The vocals are flawless here, and don't forget this was done live, those notes get on up there and it conveys great emotion! "Everything I Ever Knew" rocks, great guitar sound, reminds me of Slash minus the cheesiness of G-N-R. Cloud Party are strong, don't fooled these guys rock and
seriously. There is a substance to their material that is missing in most popular music these days. Cloud Party are a great band and I am a convert to the teachings of Speese. Well done guys, keep up the good work! The female backing vocals are a very nice touch! Nice Ray Harryhausen reference! Cloud Party are a thinking persons band. Brain candy, if you will."
