Synopsis

Album Description
On this double CD, Austrian organist (and cathedral organist in St. Pölten) Ludwig Lusser performs Johann Sebastian Bach's organ cycle "Dritter Theil der Clavier-Übung" on the cathedral organ in St. Pölten. The work consists of the Prelude and Fugue in E flat major BWV 552, the 21 Chorale Preludes BWV 669-689, and the four Duets BWV 802-805. It is frequently termed the "German Organ Mass." Bach's main intention in this "compendium of the art of the organ" was probably to present the formal diversity of organ composition. According to the organist's words in the supplemental notes, the overall structure of the cycle represents an impressive glorification of the Holy Trinity.
