CD Reviews

Incredible trio jazz

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Claude Williamson should be a household name in jazz.In my household he is.This Cd with aces Sam Jones and Roy Haynes is incredible.A deifnit Bud disciple (whose Cleopatra's Dream" ios the title track) Willimason is in the vein of other players who followed Bud like the Charlie Parker pianists Duke Jordan,Al Haig etc.I believe this CD is the latest release with more cuts than original (though check other sources to make sure). But his versions of a diverse rpetoire from Bird's "Relaxin' At Cammarillo" or Miles's "So What" and Horcace Silver's great tune "Filthy McNasty" have added a few originals.Quite honestly I have only heard one bad CD by Williamson (Live In Tokyo is a horribly miked) and wasn't thrilled with "Song With My Father (though from anybody else it would be a proud CD to have in ones discography).Check this out and get his Sonny Clark Tribute "Blue Minor" even if it costs. If your a Bud fan and like his disciples Williamson is one of the best of his disciples.Combine him with Roy Haynes and Sam Jones who as a drummer and bassist respectively if left out of a top ten list of their instruments, would be,well ludicrous, you have perfect companions for a session that is magic.I only think that this is topped by his "Blue Minor" album.

Cheers
