Synopsis

Album Description
2008 digitally remastered and expanded edition of this album from the British singer/songwriter and one-time member of Wishbone Ash, originally released in 1983, including four bonus tracks. After a break of several years from recording in her own right, Claire returned to the music scene with this innovative album that saw contributions from Gary Numan, Dick Morrissey and many other talented musicians. Touch Paper features such memorable songs as "First Night in New York", "Denmark", "The Moon is a Powerful Lover" and "Ultra Violet Light". The record would later be an influence on the Ambient Dance scene a decade later and ranks as one of Claire's most unique works. Esoteric.

CD Reviews

"Moon" struck......

"The summer of 1985, while in high school and in the midst of a new wave revolution, a friend of mine played a taped compilation of various artists of that era. I was immediately drawn to a particularly beautiful, thought extremely haunting selection that I heard, and although I had no idea who it was, I listened to it over and over until, wouldnt you know it, the tape broke. My friend and I had no idea who the artist was, and seeing as how the internet age was years away, has no way to find out. Fast forward to the present, and my reason for writing. The song is "Moon Is A Powerful Lover", and listening to it now is just as enjoyable as it was then. The rest of the album is okay, but I would purchase it just to experience that song. Soulful, haunting, melancoly, beautiful..... highly recommended!"
When she was good, she was very, very good...

"If you don't know Claire's music, this is not really the one to try first; it's the least typical. That said, if you love her music, don't miss it.
I could have lived the rest of my years without hearing 'Come Along Brave Lads' or 'Ultra-Violet Light', but life would have been less fulfilling without 'The Moon is a Powerful Lover'. That song is very special indeed.
As for the album, Gary Numan guests on it, which gives you a feel for the style. Early 80's sound, but Claire is unable to hide her talent even under the wrong arrangements.
Three stars because it's patchy, but the good bits are just great."
