A Landmark Release!

"The release of this CD finally marks the re-issue on CD of Cilla Black's original Parlophone/EMI Music releases. This has to be a must for any lover of sixties music. These are two of Cilla's finest albums, included is her debut 'Cilla' which when released in 1965 reaching #5 in the U.K and the follow-up 'Cilla Sings a Rainbow' which peaked at #4.Stunning would understate what are two beautiful albums feating the diva at her most soulful and dramatic. Cilla is the biggest selling British female artist from the sixties and this is her legacy uncovered in digitally remastered glory."

"Cilla Black had the ability to sing a song "nice" and then cut loose into a powerful dynamo! Cilla was the second biggest selling musical star to come out of Liverpool behind the Beatles.

This cd includes two former LPs on it. The first LP, simply titled "Cilla", was Cilla Black's first LP. Cilla builds the opening number "Goin' Out Of My Head" that sends me out of my head! Cilla is torchy on "Every Little Bit Hurts". "Ol Man River" is Cilla's jazzy tribute to a grand old standard. Cilla's voice worked well with Bacharach ballads and proves it with "This Empty Place". A sophisticated tribute to a great standard, Cilla is a knockout out on "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To".

The second of the 2 LPs, "Cilla Sings A Rainbow" has great additions to this cd. Once again Cilla is magic on the Bacharach ballad "Make It Easy On Yourself". Her voice was perfect for this type of song. "There's No Place To Hide" has one of those grand Cilla vocals! Cilla sings "When I Fall In Love" so beautifully that you swear that it was pulled out of a movie soundtrack from the 40's! "Yesterday" features Cilla's poignant vocal that is magic! Cilla's vocal has a force to be reckoned with in "Baby I'm Yours".

This collection is made for those of us who remember the best of the 60's singers from the U.K. It's an opportunity to explore some of the songs that most of us never had the pleasure to purchase because some of these songs were simply not available to the masses in the U.S. at that time."
At Long Last!

"It has been such a long time, but now EMI has started to release Cilla Black's back catalogue, reminding us what a truly great singer she was...and introducing a whole new generation to the fact that she is not just a top TV presenter. These are the songs we revelled in during the 60s, and these albums reveal the young Cilla as a remarkably mature all rounder with classics like Ol' Man River, and You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To. Mixed with covers of many classics of the day such as Dancing in the Street, Lovers' Concerto and Yesterday, we see the many facets of her singing style - from up-tempo swing numbers to gentle ballads. Her strong voice is particularly impressive on "Goin Out of My Head".If you haven't experienced "Cilla the singer" then get this album and discover a true star. If you know Cilla's work, then buy this album and relive those great days when Cilla featured regularly in the charts. You won't be disappointed.I for one sincerely hope that EMI will continue to release Cilla's many albums on CD for us to enjoy anew.A really great album!"
