After almost 25 years of marriage, I woke up one morning blindsided by the realization that I was now a single mother. By coincidence and/or providence, I had a previously scheduled block of time to start recording my next CD, beginning that very day. Our producer, Kurt Bloch, took full advantage of the dark timbre of my and the band s emotional state. The songs, written in the weeks leading up to and during the marriage s demise, were recorded in their full, red-hot splendor. It s been over 10 years since I listened to this CD. At the time it was so painful I shelved and tried to forget about it. I recently re-discovered it and realized I had an amazing portrait of that heightened time in my life, songs written with such a broad intensity of emotional colors that spanned the full palette of pain, grief, rage, fear, love, confusion, and yes, desperation. Desperation to comprehend what had happened, to accept what was to come for our daughter, and to confront the other woman, yet another desperate girl. I was happy by the end of the recording. It was apparent I could see a bigger picture and that forgiveness and the love that passes all understanding would have the last word. And I was right.
