Synopsis

"Nashville don't like me, but I'd rather be / A fence post in Texas than the king of Tennessee." That's Chris Wall's mentality in a nutshell: scoffing at the sounds of Nashville, singing the praises of the Lone Star state, and wrapping it all in a world-weary blend of bruising honky-tonk and intelligent songwriting. Recorded in Gruene, Texas, on Independence Day, 1996--Texas Independence Day naturally--these 13 songs build on the Texas traditions of Clark, Walker, and Keen, adding a bit of punch to the prose. Texans such as Bruce Robison, Kelly Willis, Dale Watson, and Mary Cutrufello lend a hand on this appealing ode to "swinging doors and hardwood floors." --Marc Greilsamer

"Terrific Texas Honky tonk like all his recordings. SOME SONGS RIP AND ROAR, SOME JUST RIP YOUR HEART OUT."
Upbeat and fun to listen to with catchy lyrics!

"The song "I feel like singin' along" has an upbeat pace similar to Hank Williams Jr style, and a hint of Merle Haggard with well-thought-out lyrics...I certainly like to sing along!! Even though I personally prefer upbeat tunes such as the above-mentioned, and "Runaway Cadillac", and many more, the song "Big in the Heart" seems truly from the heart, and is very enjoyable. I'm now a great fan of this artist! Jenneye Shugar drcoffee@kdi.com"
