Some really pleasing instrumental music

"This CD is a favorite of mine for playing in the car on long trips. It's accessible -- I'm tempted to call it "easy listening" -- but there's plenty of "Brazilian beat" and it is NOT elevator music. Choro is an instrumental form that includes some instruments like the mandolin that are rare in the US. This collection spans much of Brazil's musical history, from Ernesto Nazareth (a contemporary of Scott Joplin) to Chico Buarque and Tom Jobim -- many of the pieces are choro arrangements of sambas and other musical styles. The artists are able to combine a tight ensemble with lots of improvisation. Highly recommended!"
