Synopsis

Album Description
"Chor Leoni" is the latest release by Skylark Music of Canada's premiere men's choir. From the gentleness of medieval plain chant and Renaissance counterpoint to the sumptuous, rich beauty of Fauré and Russian Orthodox Church music, the repertoire on this disc is perfect for curling up with and listening to by a warm fire. Chor Leoni's self-titled disc is filled with the sonorous, luscious music that lends itself to reflection and meditation. Brett Polegato ? one of the world's leading young baritones and honorary patron of Chor Leoni ? makes a guest appearance with the choir, singing the beautiful solo line of Schubert's Ständchen. The warmth of both the repertoire and the performances is sure to make "Chor Leoni" another best seller from the choir who's "Canadian Safari" continues to be one of Canada's top-selling classical music CDs. ABOUT THE PERFORMERS - Chor Leoni Men's Choir Quality a cappella singing, eclectic repertoire, imaginative programming, and a willingness to "try anything once" have characterised Chor Leoni's meteoric rise to the upper echelons of the Canadian choral world. Chor (Greek for choir) Leoni (Italian for lions) was formed in 1992 by Diane Loomer to provide an opportunity for skilled male singers to gather and sing challenging repertoire. Based in Vancouver, the choir has commissioned, performed and recorded works by Canadian composers, consistently won prizes in the CBC national choral competition, toured across the country, and recorded many national CBC broadcasts. Diane Loomer, C.M. Diane Loomer is internationally recognised as one of Canada's leading conductors and musicians. In addition to founding and directing Chor Leoni Men's Choir, she is co-founder and co-director of Elektra Women's Choir, and has taught on the music faculty at the University of British Columbia for the past six years. In recognition of her achievements in and service to music and humanity throughout Canada, Diane received the country's highest civilian honour, the Order of Canada.
