CD Reviews

Good farkin' indie.
James Y. | Evanston, IL | 11/25/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I don't feel like doing a real review, so I'm just going to say a few quick things. Chin-Up Chin-Up is actually a local band that I heard about a year ago, and when I found out that they were getting some attention from critics it greatly excited me because this band is incredible. Very textured and moody rock music with lots of layered guitars, technical yet not flashy drumming, and a unique vocal sound. Highly reccomended; very cool album."
Excellent Indie Rock

"I had a chance to see Chin Up Chin Up live and a friend of mine bought the cd pre-release. I begged to have a copy every day and I was so happy when I finally got it. Not only does this cd have some of the best song titles(Why Is My Sleeping Bag a Ghetto Muppet?) but some of the most calming vocals I've ever heard.

In my opinion, the stand out tracks on the cd are: Why is my sleeping bag a ghetto muppet?, We Should Have Never Lived Like Skyscrapers, Falcons and Vulcans, Collide the Tide, and The Architect has a gun. Give the whole cd a try before you limit yourself to favorites, though. It's very good."
Best CD I've heard in years, no joke

"This CD is fantastic. The sound is great (unlike what the other reviewer said), and these guys are obviously very good musicians. The drums in particular are great, I could listen to them alone and still be happy, and there are lots of interesting guitar parts. My favorite track is the title track, I've probably heard it hundreds of times by now (it's #1 on my Ipod by a long way) and I still always start nodding my head when the drums come in. The band's sound ie pretty hard to categorize, maybe up-tempo shoegaze? Psychedlic ambient indie? Sigur Ros crossed with the Strokes? Whatever terms you can come up with, this is just a great rock CD. I highly, highly recommend them."
