CD Reviews

A Minucci marvel

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Although not a fan of the smooth Jazz genre, I always enjoyed Special EFX. They had a sound that was fresh & relaxing, but also invigorating. I have always enjoyed Chieli's playing and enjoyed his first solo CD.Night Grooves is a quality CD throughout. A good romantic night CD and also good for your daily drive. Standout tracks for me were "Foolin'around again" and "You're my reason". I was listening for the first time and just said to my wife that I wished he would let loose like he had on Confidential's "Nature Boy" the next cut was "Without You" and my wish was granted! The song starts out mellow and works into a steady burn. great guitar playing...by far the best track. I can't stop playing it!
The CD is consistently good. Decent sound quality. solid back up players. In a world of so many "so so" cd's this ones worth your hard earned dollar."

"Given, smooth jazz is elevator music to my ears. "You've heard one smooth jazz arrangement, you've pretty much heard it all", and nothing on this album convinces me otherwise. Particularly true of the arrangments which sound very canned to me.

So with that bias I give Minucci credit for his skill and style. Not a bad album, i do wish some of these guys would risk a little and inject something genuine into this music."
