"Warning: the CD titled "Inner Visions" is NOT the orginal album on vinyl, despite the cover art. After a long wait for this title to be released on CD, I grabbed a copy as soon as it became available. I took it home and played it only to be shocked that some of the best tunes were left off the CD, an outrageous perversion in a day when many CDs are released with added tracks. I was especially upset that "Tones for Joan's Bones" was missing. The only reason I give this product even one star is for "Litha." To charge money for only part of an album, without identifying the album as incomplete, and using original cover art to suggest that it is the genuine article, is THEFT -- a crime! The bad rating is for the false product, not Chick Corea's effort."

First shows of musical genius

"In 1971 Corea had registered two discs "Piano improvisations" by ECM, and his style was known enough. When he was thirty it did not need waiting too, that boy started to play piano when was four, he had eaten Parker, Gillespie, Powell and Lester Young, but Mozart and Beethoven too; he played with Sarah Vaugham and Miles Davis, Holland and the saxman Braxton. In 1972 started the collection "Return to forever" , but quick was published "Inner space", all Corea's music.Corea plays piano with Joe Farrell (sax), Woody Shaw (trumpet), Steve Swallow (bass), Joe Chambers (drums) and, above all, Hubert Laws (flute) ; in "Windows" bass and drums are played by Ron Carter and Grady Tate; for the beautiful last "Trio" Karl Porter plays bassoon with Corea and Laws.The first piece ("Straigh up and down", 12') is very agreeable; quick we can listen the Corea's style; the winds plays well, but not very originally.Less dynamic, the second piece ("Litha" , 13'), but the melodies of trumpet are interesting.Very elegant "Inner space" (9'), when the rhythmic function of Corea makes free the best energies of the winds. I very like "Windows" (9'), now we can listen the flute of Laws: the duet with Corea is perfect, sweetness and rest together are very good. In "Guijira" (12') too the flute guides the melody, but this time it's that less romantic of Joe Farrell, who leave the sax to talk with the trumpet of Shaw: this piece is surely a successful, very interesting because the instruments and the melodic lines. At last, a little pearl, "Trio" (5') for flute - again Laws - bassoon and piano; serious intentions, great ideas, elegance, irony : this trio is really a beautiful surprise."

Chick's Best Collection Ever

"Although the transfer from vinyl missed two stellar compositions(available on an album with McCoy, Herbie, and Keith Jarrett) there is some absoluteky marvelous stuff on this disc that hits most of the conceivable bases of what jazz can be. Some avant-garde exploration, some ballad music, some chamber music sounding stuff--all of it combines to give a satisfying pastiche of the jazz experience. It's on my top 15 list for several reasons--the playing is excellent, his various ensembles never fail to coalesce harmonically, and there's some genuine integrity of expression here. It both pleases and challenges, and I truly regret that is it not more widely known or highly regarded. I think it's a classic."
