It's about time

"It's about time. I've been around for a few moons. I've sat in my rooming spinning 1st wave on vinyl, skanked through the "madness" of the 2nd (pun intended), praised the punk / power-pop riffs added in the third, and clung to the few bands that have tried to start a 4th (Streetlight Manifesto ring a bell). This is one of those bands. It almost blew me over at the similarities in both style and voice between lead singer Karen and Monique Powell formerly of Save Ferris (listen to CLB's "We've got pockets like nobody's business" next to SF's "The world is new", just my opinion). I'm not saying that she, Karen, is a copy-cat of any sort or that the band is a copy-cat of Save Ferris I just notice a slight similarity.



That said the majority of their music is very reminiscent of third wave bands of old with their own uniqueness thrown in. It's been awhile since we've really heard new ska bands, almost a decade it seems, and I sure hope it's a sign of things to come. Maybe if MTV stops turning into BET and decides to play something other than (c)rap we'll get to hear bands such as this.
