CD Reviews

You can actually understand some of the words he sings!!!!!!

"This is the 1st decently restored cd I've heard of Charlie Patton, although I don't mind in the least hearing a scratchy 78, but it is sort of a revelation to be able to understand some of the words Patton is singing, since previously all of his cd compilations have been from scratchy 78's and little remastering. This cd is great to have in addition to the 5 cd bootleg set from the UK. This is the best single disc, and even if you have ALL of Patton't works, as I did, this cd is still well worth owning to hear these sides cleaned, as they heard them back in 1929 when the records weren't so beat up. Great remastering job, without taking away from the integrity of the recordings. 5 1/2 stars all the way!!! CLASSIC music, a desert island disc indeed."
Yazoo makesThe ONLY Charley Patton cd's worth buying!

"Once again Yazoo makes the best quality reissues of the early blues. I buy and collect Charley Patton 78 RPM records, and this and Yazoo's other Patton cd's are the only ones that I have listed to that can match and in some cases surpass the quality of the original shellac record. A Must own for any fan of serious student of the blues or pre-war American music."
Fantastic Sound

"I second the other reviewer - this is the best sound I've heard for these Patton records. I've been listening to these songs for over twenty-five years, first on vinyl, then on a couple of different CD compilations (including the budget JSP set). Listening to this CD, however, is like hearing them for the first time. Outstanding! My only complaint is the lack of discographical details - a failing of all of Yazoo's releases. In the end, the music is the most important thing, and this CD brings Patton's music to life like never before. Also check out this disc's companion on Yazoo, the "Best of Charlie Patton"."
