CD Reviews

Funky ! ! !
Eddie Landsberg | Tokyo, Japan | 09/11/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This was THE album that got me into the Hammond Organ...

NEVER expected to see it reissued ! ! !

Recorded in '73, Jazz organist Charles Kynard does his take on a number of recently recorded funk tunes, circa that era... including Superstition, The World Is A Ghetto, I've Got So Much Trouble and Summer Breeze.

There's not a single miss on this album...

Featuring ultra funky soloing, funky comping, a tight rhythm section, tight crisp horn section - - funky but crisp arrangements... tightly produced... and not a tune is a miss.

Fred Wesley fans... take note of George Bohannon, the original Funky Trombonist's presence... His solo on SUPERSTITION steals the show.

Oh, introducing the band:

CHARLES KYNARD CHUCK RAINEY RAY POUNDS PAUL HUMPHREY DAVID ROBERTS GEORGE BOHANON ARTHUR ADAMS JERRY RUSCH JAMES KARTCHNER

Fans of funk and groove... odds are you've never heard this one, and if you haven't you're missing out.

If you enjoy this album, be sure to check out FUNK INC."
