Cerrone Goes Back To His Glory Disco Days On This Latest Cd!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Veteran Disco Artist/Producer Cerrone's latest cd entitled "Hysteria" is a step back into the days of platform shoes and polyester shirts. Yes the glory days of disco! From the opening song "The Only One" you are transported back into your favorite 70's discoteque. Very disco with nice female vocals, some robotic vocals, a strong beat and a great hook make this a sure fire hit. The title song "Hysteria" which is actually the first single is again disco with nice male vocals, flowing synthesizers, and simulated orchestral strings. Perhaps the most disco-oriented track is "Love On The Dance Floor" with it's sultry female vocals, solid bassline, simulated orchestral strings and nice melody. My personal favorite song is a new updated version of Don Ray's 70's megahit "Got To Have Loving". The original male vocals have now been replaced with female vocals which add a different twist to the song. There are space effects, cool synthesizers and driving beat which surpass the original version in terms of production and sound quality. "It Had To Be You" is another outstanding song with nice synths, strings and female vocals. "Funky You" continues with the disco format with it's strong funky bassline, keyboards and lush female vocals. "Gonna Get You" and "That's Right" are also funky with a nice hooks. There are a number of more downtempo tracks in "Wake The Beach","101", the latin sounding "38 And You", and "Back Home". If you enjoy the classic 70's disco sound or the newer filter disco sound then pick this latest Cerrone cd up, you won't be disappointed."

Eight long years since we heard an album from the disco master John Marc Cerrone, AKA Cerrone. The new CD called 'Hysteria' is unbelievable and features artists such as guitar virtuoso Nile Rodgers that has produced a who's who in disco and dance music. With 12 unbelievable new tracks and a very provocative cover, this CD is a must have. I ordered mine immediately from France but it will not be available here in the United States until after approximately January 1, 2003. If you don't own it already, also consider the Remix CD of all the Cerrone classics, mixed by 'Bob Sinclair' AKA 'Chris the French Kiss' a predominant DJ in the Pariaian dance club scene."
DANCE MASTERPIECE!!

"WOW!!! Where do I even start with this one?

I bought this about 3 months ago..not expecting much...well--it's the bomb!

In the liner notes, Cerrone tells us "this new album parallels my late 70's period". I said to myself..."yeah right", knowing how amazing his early work was, ie "Supernature", "love in C minor", "Dr. Do Dah", and so on--how could this be as good (or even close)?

From the opening song "The only one", I was proved wrong! Nile Rodgers played guitar on it, and it really shows. It's the best you can expect from "Nu disco"..very catchy.

"Gonna get you" is a nice surprise as well..as it's pretty much a straight-ahead r & b dance tune, with amazing melody lines and female vocals by Beverly Quinn. Nice little synth solo played by Cerrone's long time collaborator Don Ray.

Speaking of Don Ray...remember 1987's "Got to have lovin"??? well they covered it on this album...and it kicks butt.

The arrangment was pretty much re-created verbatim according the original, but with Nile Rodgers adding his funky as hell rhythm guitars!!

There are some slower tracks on the cd such as "101", which are amazing. This song has almost new age touches on it...very ambient and dark, but also quite soulful and funky.

For the record, Don Ray played ALL the keyboards on this album, and his playing (albeit sequenced) is bettter than ever.

All in all, the entire album is extremely well produced, well arranged, well performed...and very catchy and soulful.

While the songs may be a bit more conventional than the classics he wrote in the 70's, they still bear that CERRONE stamp. Yes...his SOUND & VIBE is still here, in all it's glory.

I can't say enough about this album, other than it ranks up there with "Supernature" and "Love in C minor"--one of his best albums, and the best dance album i've heard in the last 15 years (easily)
