Synopsis

Album Description
Digitally remastered reissue of the 1989 debut album by this sorely overlooked Hard Rock band. Based in Los Angeles and nudging shoulders with every Sunset Strip wannabe (including Quiet Riot, Rough Cutt, Motley Crue, and Dokken) CIB found a new path forward by developing a huge following in Japan that quickly manifested into a series of major record companies falling over themselves to get the band to sign on the dotted line. With their eyes firmly on the prize it was EMI who won the day, lining their pockets with ready cash and a promise to make them stars. Put in the studio with AC/DC engineer Mark Opitz, the band crafted one of the eras best, if ultimately overlooked, slices of prime time Hollywood sleaze grating hard rock. The hooks were huge. The guitars cut and thrust. The production sounded like a million dollars and front man Joel Ellis screamed and preened like he had been born to boogie. Rock Candy. 2009.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album is absolutely the crown of everything good that the 80's rock bands aspired to in terms of energy and attitude. The first six songs- Shotgun Sally, Nine Lives, Her Monkey, Whip it Out, Long Way From Home and Coast to Coast- are top notch high tempo, face-ripping hard rock, dripping raw energy and sleaze despite the ultra polished production. The album's one "eh" point is next with the customary ballad "Every Sunrise", a few steps above the typical vomit-inducing dreck of the day like Warrant's "Heaven", but still little more than breathing room before picking up again with the funkier mid-tempo "Evil Angel" and "Bad Boys are Back"(great song despite the cringeworthy title), then sprinting to the finish with high speed closer "Heaven on a Heartbeat". Is it deep? Of course not, it's 1989. But if you want to push the envelope beyond Poison and Warrant and the like, without going full-on metal, take a listen to this band....and don't blame me for the speeding ticket."
Over-looked Masterpiece!

"I bought Kicked And Klawed when it first came out in late 1989 after seeing the video for Her Monkey. Wow was I amazed at how cool this band is and how great this album is. They are so much better musically than most of their peers. And Joel Ellis can sing like a mother!! I love this cd start to finish and have listened to it steadily for 20 years. Buy it and you'll love it."
