CD Reviews

Vocal Thunder From Down Under
NeverEver4Ever | USA | 03/25/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Okay, I've been a fan of American Idol since it's inception, then I was turned on to Canadian Idol at the end of it's third season, when I discovered there was an Australian Idol I started investigating. And first and third season OZ Idol winners Guy Sebastian and Kate DeAraugo have nothing on Miss Casey Donovan. The only reason I didn't give the album 5 stars is because there isn't a lot of musical versatility and I'm sure it was due to Casey being a new artist and that a lot of her material was selected for her instead of her writing her tunes instead. That being said, the winning single "Listen With You Heart" is beautifully sung and conveys so much passion. "What's Going On" is the best song on the album, an angsty breakup song that Casey pulls off effortlessly. Other highlights inclue "How Could I Fall (For That)", "Better To Love", "Something Beautiful", and her live performance from Australian Idol "Symphony Of Life". I can't wait to hear more from this talented young lady in the future and hope her new album carries more of the "What's Going On" theme."
WOW!! My Son LOVES this album!!

"I listen to this album frequently! LOL! First off Casey knows HOW TO sing. Her voice isn't anything special but it takes a lot of listening to know why she won. Her voice knows how to personify emotion and it's really brillant. Her song "Better To Love" such amazing song. And her version of "Shine" is up to par with Clay Aiken's. She mixes the song with a rockier edge to "Shine" especially toward the end. I love it! Of course me being a teenager from America,NOBODY in my Son's High School is obsessed with "foriegn" Idols as he is so pretty much nobody knows who in the world Casey Donovan is! So there is no feeling of being "uncool" when listening to her!! I believe that Casey and Anthony should have both won! I bought both their albums and they're absolutely great! I would recommend this album to a pre-teen to early teen years. Not saying it's boppy, it really expresses what most teens usually go through. They are developing emotionally and the album's songs resemble their emotion levek. Great!"
Young Talent - promising

"First off, let me address the 1 star ratings posted here: they do not provide any objective evidence to support their scores, and are no example of how a decent review should be written. I'll try to be more descriptive here...

To the album - I'm from the US and was fortunate enough to come across Casey and Anthony in Australian Idol. As one reviewer stated, Casey's album offers a nice variety of pop, ballads, and rock. I enjoyed the melodies, and find myself humming them from time to time.

The songs are sung with such depth and interpretation... it's impressive this comes from a 16-yr old, who only made this album in 8 days. Most songs talk of love (and I hate sappy songs), but I thought Casey's interpretation connects well, espcially because there are moments of passion and anger. (You can listen to a 30-sec sample of each song on the album at this australian music site: www.hmv.com.au/product/rockpop.asp?sku=953493)

Lastly, the variety in music really helps hold the listener's interests because you won't find yourself thinking that you're listening to the same thing again and again.

On a side note, I'd like to say my favorite in the competition was Anthony, but I'm happy that Casey won. Casey certainly deserves more credit than she's getting - she's not even an adult, was pushed fast-forward into the music industry, and shallow people won't look past her looks to give her respect (I'm sure you haters are all super models and miss congenialities yourself!).

SO many people talk about how low the record sales are, and jump onto this "high school" band wagon of "I'll look un-cool if I'm caught listening to Casey". Try being an individual for a change! Anthony and Casey are trying to live their dreams. Please check out their albums and support these young artists."
