CD Reviews

Please don't buy used copies of my CD
Carolyn Edwards | Los Angeles, CA United States | 07/20/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Hi folks - this is Carolyn Edwards. I want to ask anyone who's interested in buying my CD to please buy a new copy, directly from Amazon, instead of a used or "new" copy from one of the many vendors who have it listed on here for less. As you probably know, artists on Amazon don't receive one penny from CDs that are sold via these vendors (most of these vendors are selling copies that had been sent for promotional purposes to journalists, radio, etc.). Artists only receive their share of a CD sale when the CD is purchased new, directly from Amazon itself. I know this is inevitable and happens to everyone that releases a CD, but, like most musicians who release independent CDs without any record company funding, I worked very hard on it & went into debt recording it; if you like my music and want to support it, please buy it directly from Amazon. Thanks so much. xoxoxo - ce"
A great find

"I was listening to an album called "The Wheel" which is by the great David Olney, when a short acapella song called 'Stars' played and piqued my interest because whoever sang it had a great voice. As far as I can tell, the Carolyn Edwards credited on that album is this Carolyn Edwards, whose album I then purchased and am enjoying right now. It doesn't hurt that I'm a great fan of both Jimmy Webb and Liz Phair (a review I read mentioned that this album was like listening to Liz sing some new Jimmy Webb songs) and that is not too far off. The instrumentation is great also - now I'm going to listen to this about 4 or 5 more times in a row to etch it in my brain...

Fantastic quiet stuff that packs a punch

"It's true there are great supporting players on the album. But no question the star is CE. These are songs that while they seem to have a high pop gloss, really pack a punch.

She combines many pop, folk & country elements but into very intense psychologically

'noir' situations. "The Argument" alone is almost too intense to listen to at times in dissecting a collapsing relationship, with an air of real danger. I love all the other songs too. Edwards has a sweet voice and obviously a love for a variety of pop and 'ballad' sounds. But this is as intense if not more so than any PJ Harvey album. True, it is short-- but not many albums of even twice the length pack into them as much interesting music or as many interesting lyrics. One of the best albums of '05 I think."
