A variety chocolate box

"This is a delightful mixture of Italian baroque pieces from mostly lesser known composers. The choice of pieces and their arrangement on the disc is very well done, giving a fine balance of many assorted instruments from the Purcell quartet and the excellent HMS&C (not to forget Wooley). This is the one of those discs that makes you wonder why there aren't more concept albums around, except that most of them aren't as accomplished as this effort.

My only complaint is a personal one, based on unpleasant religious associations connected to the sound of a solo organ (triggered by only two pieces in the collection). These are apparently shared by my wife, because during the toccata she shouted out from her office "I feel like I'm in church..!". That apart, it's great..."
