Synopsis

Amazon.com
Long-time veteran Capleton turns up the heat with his own inimitable blend of roots dancehall on Still Blazing, the follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2000 release More Fire. Still Blazing is a highly recommended mix of "rootical prophetics," surprisingly gentle love songs, and the same type of reggae and hip-hop anthems that earned Capleton a strong following stateside. Capleton is ably assisted on his rootsier selections by Morgan Heritage, Glen Washington, and Luciano, whose buoyant vocals cause "Hail King Selassie" to soar. On the experimental front, Capleton's laid-back crooning rescues his live synth-driven slow jam "In Your Eyes" from being a sappy failure. When it comes to the hardcore style, the dancehall prophet is a master at rocking all riddims. "Woah" runs over the currently hot "Rice and Peas" sound, while "Punchline 2 Hit," one of the album's strongest selections, is buffeted by the vintage "Answer" riddim. "Cooyah Cooyah" continues the More Fire theme and features energetic counterpoint vocals from a very young member of Capleton's camp. --Rebecca Levine

"The 'Prophet' is back and Still Blazing after the success of his previous album, More Fire! This album (Still Blazing)is the right title for this album, It is well crafted with some very good tunes. If you are a rasta or a really raggae lover, you should have this album. The 'Prophet' is talking about women, current events, nature and of course His Majesty King Selassie I, Jah Rastafari. Feature tracks include Behold featuring Morgan Heritage, Search fi a Find, Hail King Selassie with Luciano, Jah Gonna Work It Out with Glen Washington, Cooyah Cooyah, Punchline 2 Hit,just to mention few. All reggae fans out there, dem should know that The 'Prophet' as is known by his fans and rasta community is back with some of de wickedess firy lyrics. Go and Get It, you won't regret it."

"Yes it is still blazin' and is hotter than hot this time around. This is Capleton's best album by far... riding off of the success of More Fire, it holds its own and expands to make a great Rasta reggae classic. Ones may be weary of Capleton or disagree with some of his philosophies (for more about his character see my review for More Fire), but do not pass this album up. Some of Reggae's greatest modern roots and culture artists collaborate with "The Prophet" here... and they make a killer combination. One of the best tunes is Jah Is Gonna Work It Out featuring Glen Washington... Uncle Glen is a gravely voiced conscious singer whose style compliments the deejay flow of Capleton. Morgan Heritage makes Behold a classic, and Hail King Selassie featuring Luciano is just as wicked. Other standout conscious tracks are the burst of energy on Search Fi A Find, Mashing Up The Earth, Red Red Red, Pure Woman and I Will Survive Among some regular Dancehall tracks are Boom Sound, the hit Whoa "New Way", the hidden track Gimmi The Women, and How It Go. Capleton experiments here with singing In Your Eyes and does quite well, and I & I Chant is a good Binghi chant. All of the tunes here are excellent, the album can be listened to without skipping through... it is well produced and well balanced. Add this to your reggae collection. Big up to Capleton!"
