Synopsis

Amazon.com
Mariachi Campanas de America started out as a trad mariachi outfit but quickly evolved into a versatile ensemble that could easily switch from swooning rancheras to percussive cumbias and popish ballads. High points include "La Mariquita," a tense but rhythmic son huapango elevated by singer Rhonda Garcia's silky smooth vocals. Fiery magic is produced on the heat-generating "Como La Quiero," which features a duet between Campanas singer Juan Ortiz and Tejano superstar Ruben Ramos. And the spirit of big-band Tejano is evoked on the rousing polka "Dejame Llolar Solo," fueled by heavy horns. Disappointing are the goofy gimmick tunes "Troquita Colorada" and "Media Paso"--Campanas is way above this dreck. --Ramiro Burr

"I am glad to hear this music available on Amazon. I got this CD prior to this listening and am really pleased with the variety of good latino music played by this group. I hope to find them on the internet."
