CD Reviews

Viva Camarón
Fulanito de Tal | España | 06/04/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"No soy un experto en Flamenco y por tanto mi opinión no es la mejor en este campo. Bueno, no soy experto en ningún tipo de música pero me encanta escucharla.Este disco es la leche. No sé si lo aprecio tanto porque fue mi primer disco de Camarón o porque está lleno de sentimiento, de fuerza, de pasión, gitano hasta la médula.Y escuchar al mejor cantador de todos los tiempos junto a Paco de Lucía (San Paco) es un lujazo."
One of the chosen ones

"BUY THIS CD.

Camaron was one of the greatest geniuses of flamenco singing ever recorded, and, of course, his best friend, on guitar, is Paco de Lucia, certifiable virtuoso.

I am going to name-drop here. I met McCoy Tyner at a club one night. He played piano with John Coltrane on "A LOVE SUPREME". We were talking about why many great musicians become legends, like Trane, and some don't . He said, "Many are called, but few are chosen.

Camaron was one of the chosen ones.

Camaron's singing is pure, unadulterated soul.

P.S. I saw him and Paco play in Barcelona. The audience threw thousands of dollars [pesos]all over the stage. The stage was piled with such high mountains of paper money that it makes the World Poker Tour look silly. When Camaron died, thousands of people walked down the streets in silence with his casket... all men...weeping like babies in long black coats. The anti-macho moment. This was broadcast only on TV in Spain. Better than the Kennedy funeral. Most of Spain truly loved that man, even though he was a junkie and died of a heroin overdose.

His singing is phenomenal.

This dude was a major, major talent.

We miss you Camaron. We loved you a lot.

BUY IT. THERE IS NOTHING LIKE IT.
