CD Reviews

Larmore transcends her indifferent accompaniment.

"Those of you who have read my comments on "Where Shall I Fly?" know how highly I value Jennifer Larmore as an artist. In this album, she not only continues her good work but left me speechless with her interpretations of these arias. No one in our century has sung these lyric bel canto arias by Bellini, Donizetti and Rossini with such fire and intensity, and I mean NO ONE! And if you think these are good, wait until you hear the way she sings the supposedly "minor" arias of Stephano (Romeo et Juliette) and Siebel (Faust). Her way with the aria from Tchaikovsky's "Maid of Orleans [Joan of Arc]" is matched in intensity only by Maggie Teyte's dismal-sounding June 1947 radio transcription disc. Even more astoundingly, she does all this in spite of the plodding, abysmal, emotionally detached conducting of one Carlo Rizzi, who isn't even good enough to be a repiteur. In short, I was well-pleased with this CD and strongly suggest that you buy it. And I can't wait to hear "Amore per Rossini"!"

"Jennifer Larmore sings these "trouser roles" to perfection. Her gorgeous, warm amd lyrical voice fully expresses the emotional qualities of each of these very different arias with amazing artistic control and excellent diction. Exquisitely sung for intense listening pleasure!"
