Synopsis

Album Details
1999 Issue of the Only Album Recorded by Songwriter Claudio Baglioni's Backing Musicians who Turned in a Progressive Italian Rock Masterpiece for the Easy Listening Suono Label in 1971. The Album's Release was Cancelled at the Time (Since it Didn't Conform to Label Standards), but was Discovered by Archivists and a Limited Edition was Issued on CD in the Early 1990's. Their Name Translates as "Good Time Charlie" (Reportedly a Tip of the Hat to Charles Schulz's Charlie Brown), but They Disbanded About a Year after the Sessions. What They Left Behind is a Legendary Instrumental Masterpiece that was Highly Influenced by Choice Classical Music and the Players' Jazz Leanings. The Result is an Near Symphonic Opus that was Right in Step with the Golden Era of Prog Rock, as Exemplified by Groups Like ELP, King Crimson, Yes Or Genesis. This Edition Adds Two Shorter Tracks and all Tracks were Digitally Remastered.

CD Reviews

Delightful italian prog !
Ramas | Mexico City | 10/03/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Buon Vecchio Charlie, like many other italian prog bands in the 70's achieved only one full-length album, their eponymous record was really hard to find until now and can be considered as a significant milestone in this genre.

Three tracks (plus two bonus tracks) compose this "typical italian prog album", where the experienced proghead will identify the strong rhythmic combinations (drums/bass), the elaborated and extense guitar/keyboards passages and a some exhuberant "Tullesque" flute arrangements, that can be found in other italian prog bands like PFM, Quella Vecchia Locanda, New Trolls or Osanna.

In general, Buon Vecchio Charlie is a good album that certainly every proghead will enjoy. However, I rate it 4 stars out of 5 since some technical limitations during remastering/re-editon are clearly revealed when listening to tracks 1 and 3."
