One of The Best Funk Rock Albums Ever
Julie Swedien Johnson | Chicago, Il. | 06/20/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I was 13 years old when my father recorded this album at Universal Recording Studios in Chicago. Buddy Miles was such a cool guy...so talented. He, Billy Cox and Jimi Hendrix formed Band of Gypsys in 1969 after meeting on the rhythm and blues circuit...(band of Gypsys was one of world's first all-black rock bands). When my father recorded Them Changes, my sister and I hung out in the studio and it was incredible. They had such energy and the group was so tight. It was fascinating to watch Billy Cox play bass with the FuzzFace box on the floor. We were hit with a blinding wall of "fuzz" in the control room. And the "sustain" button left the notes hanging in the air forever. The guys inhaled a bucket of KFC when they were on break and Buddy let me feel his huge afro. "Dreams" is my all-time favorite song. Dad did some of the mixing at his home studio in our basement and I remember doing my homework with the music in the background. An awesome record."
