Synopsis

Album Description
Buddy MacMaster, uncle and inspiration to fiddling sensation Natalie MacMaster, is the world's leading exponent of the Cape Breton fiddle style. This is his third recording and his first in 10 years. The Judique Flyer was a steam driven passenger train that replaced the old stagecoach line running between Inverness and Point Tupper on Cape Breton's west coast. In 1938, fiddler Buddy MacMaster boarded The Judique Flyer to return home from Troy after playing his first dance. From that time Buddy's reputation as a fiddler spread up and down the Judique line. In 1943, Buddy took a job as a telegrapher and travelling station agent with the Canadian National Railroad and for the next 40 years the railroad would nurture his reputation as a generous fiddler. Joining him on this recording are many of the accompanists he has played with throughout his sixty-year career as a master of the fiddler.

"BUDDY MACMASTER plays a great set of dance tunes in Cape Breton style. Your feet won't want to stay still as his bouncy, lively, fiddlin' style puts magic in your step.If you like Cape Breton fiddlin', you'll LOVE this album. A LOT OF FUN!"
The Master's Hand

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Any true fan of Cape Breton fiddle recognizes that one star shines the brightest and that star is Buddy MacMaster. This CD is of particular note for the variety of accompanists: it's a who's who of Cape Breton piano and one track with guitar whiz Dave MacIsaac. Other things to enjoy are the wonderful liner notes by Paul MacDonald and the quality of the production (by Gordie Sampson and Paul Mills). This is one of the best sounding Cape Breton fiddle albums ever made."

"We saw Buddy in person while traveling in Nova Scotia and he is amazing at age 80+. We were sorry we did not buy an autographed CD on the spot. A Christmas gift for my husband, this CD brings back all the memories of our trip. My husband has played it often and it energizes him. Buddy is an amazing performer"
