CD Reviews

Swinging With the Stars
Steve Emerine | Tucson, AZ United States | 04/26/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

""By Request: Bud Shank Meets the Rhythm Section" on the Muse label is an outstanding 70 minutes of four jazz all-stars playing 11 standards. Shank, the legendary alto saxophonist, is joined by a much younger -- but also outstanding -- rhythm section of Cyrus Chestnut on piano, George Mraz on bass and Lewis Nash on drums. Who could quarrel with guys like that giving their all to "September Song," "Angel Eyes," "Beautiful Love," "Tenderly," "Here's That Rainy Day" or "Night and Day"? This is a great CD for any jazz lover's collection."

"Wow! Who says the Golden Age of Jazz is Past?!? The solos on this album are great. This quartet is absolutely "burning down the house", with great improvisations, control, AND WONDERFUL MATERIAL. I could go on and on.....just buy the CD and see for yourself--You won't be disappointed."
