Buck Owens Scores Again
aron green, m.d. | Los Angeles, CA. | 06/17/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This album is a sleeper! It carries a lot of bang for the Buck in that the songs are all solid, consistently played gems. The lead-off title track features James Burton on lead guitar, in what is for him a rare display of guitar prominence. His playing is crisp, tough, and there is a generous helping of it. All the songs are recorded quite well, with nice punch to all the instruments. Buck's vocals as well as his writing likewise are of consistently high quality."
Buck takes The Wheel On This Time Around..

(5 out of 5 stars)

"James Burton takes the lead on the intro on the first song of the album,"Open Up Your Heart". These Sundazed Capitol reprints are the best, most are printed in 1995,what?! nobody's buying Buck?!- they just don't know. OPEN UP YOUR HEART is a good Buck Owens album, Buck steers the wheel on most of these songs without the help of the reliable, always precise harmonies of partner Don Rich. In other words Buck's famous Buckeroos are mixed and dubbed around playing on different tracks, rather than all together like the good ol' days, probably a sign Buck was movin' on to better things..other notable songs - "Congradulations,You're Absolutely Right","Think Of Me","Palm Of Your Hand" released 1966 - one of the better albums from Buck Owens last days with Capitol, featuring the country music maestro himself, thanks to Sundazed for releasing Buck's discography, thanks to Amazon for making these rare recordings available."
