A Great Release...Also the Finale for Language Arts
7th Angl | Ontario, Canada | 02/26/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Along with Square, Buck 65 also recorded and released Synesthesia in 2002. It is actually Language Arts pt. 5, and wraps up the series. It shares many parallels with Vertex, and is probably the most disregarded recording Buck has ever made. In "attack of the nerds", Buck discusses the travails associated with touring, but he does big up his peers like Slug, Mr. Dibbs, Cut Chemist, Living Legends, etc...

The funniest songs are "grumpy" and "mouth wash",(replete with hilarious choruses)where Buck admonishes personal bad habits, and "Buick 65" celebrates a plethora of mixed-genre inspirations. "Toxic constituents" is Buck's anti-smoking message, and "poop and pee" is a dedication of sorts to his long time girlfriend (and a pretty cool one at that). Musically, the beats are harder, and a few are especially guitar driven.

The thing I do not like about "synesthesia" (a neurological disorder whereby the five senses become disoriented and confused) is that these tracks sound culled from other releases somehow, and the last two tracks are merely remixes of nerds and centaur. Not bad remixes, but I don't understand why there is no finale, given that this is the last album of Language Arts.

A good album nevertheless, which bridges Buck's old-school sensibility with his contemporary work."
