CD Reviews

Live at a Studio!!

"The first disc was recorded in a studio, however with a live-version quality (like thouse live at radio stations albuns). The second is the truly live disc, recorded at The Marquee, London. If you enjoyed "Balls to Picasso" and "Tattooed Millionaire" you'll certainly like this album. However it sounds a bit more like Skunkworks, since the musicians are the same as Skunkworks. The best songs in my opinion are the live version of "Hell No", "Tears of the Dragon", "Tattoed Millionaire" and "1000 Points of Light"."
For Bruce completists only.

"Okay, Bruce's voice is absolutely fine on this. Both his lives albums (this one and Scream For Me Brazil), he's in top vocal shape. However, Scream For Me Brazil is a true live album with the Tribe of Gypsies (Roy Z and his band who played on Balls to Picasso, Accident of Birth, and Chemical Wedding) and Adrian Smith (who played on Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding). Here, Bruce has the Skunkworks lineup (Alex Dickson and some other people) and they just simply do not know how to play any Balls to Picasso or Tattooed Millionaire stuff on top of the fact it's a one guitar show, Bruce's needs atleast two Guitarist to get the full of effect of his songs. The second is, the first CD was actually for an aborted Live Radio broadcast, so no crowd. The second CD is a true Live album but just suffers from the Skunkworks lineup. Get Scream for me Brazil, which I rank higher than Iron Maiden's Live After Death."

"To say the least, I was very disappointed by this "live" album. The reason I put "live" in quotations is because this isn't a very "lively" album. There is no crowd cheering what-so-ever! It makes me wonder why Bruce Dickinson & crew decided to release this? Part of the live album experience is to feed off the energy of the audience, and without that, it just sounds like the band is performing acoustically on a sound stage. Another complaint is that this 2 disc set contains 2 seperate concerts, but the concerts have basically the same song listing. One good thing about this collection is it looks very nice. It comes with a super nice booklet with plenty of pictures and liner notes from Bruce, and also some very nice picture discs. Other than that, only Iron Maiden/Bruce Dickinson collectors should get this set, and even the collectors won't listen to it."
