"It's dark out and I'm so lonely and I can't remember if I've already reviewed this album and I feel like one of those men you bristle at when seeing them flipping through cd's and lp's at your local indie record store, because they look so underfed and yet so full of an inflated sense of self-worth, because, when they finally decide to buy something it is this:The newest Brothomstates album, the first full one for Warp after and absolutely spanking good EP (it's really a freakishly good EP), and an internet exclusive ep on this boy's website. It's called Claro and it is, I must admit, an astonishingly crisp, gorgeous free wheeling garden delight of an album.Brothomstates is the heir to Warp now that Aphex is rumored to be on his way out. Good riddance tank boy, your music is good, but it's time to let this fierce Fin (he's from Finland!) take over. There's something really fine about the fusion of all the past Warp roster on this disc which is both mesmerizing, and suddenly, totally original. To say that it sounds like a cross between Autechre and Boards of Canada, would be only a limiting gesture. It's true, those influences are heard, but there's something else here, something no one else has touched.Brothomstates is original, pristine, netherworlds. As a part of being an card carrying member of the elitist snob club that makes up the large portion of the purchasing power of underground music, I am also allowed one music related dream a month. And this month's was a dream in which I discovered the meaning of the word Brothomstates. It was a brilliant revelation, and I felt I'd learned something. Just as I did when I first heard this masterpiece, my dream told me something about life in the Now and Here.Naturally, when I awoke, it was lost to me, and the word Brothomstates still means nothing to me. The sparse, tricky landscape of Brothom is worth visit."

"If you are a fan of the mid 90's Warp Records sound, intelligent techno with beautiful melodies, then you'll enjoy this. Although it's very modern sounding, the beats and rhythms are very IDM influenced, he has not forgotten the importance of the haunting and melodic keyboard lines. Well done!"

"Okay, this guy kinda came out of nowhere, but being on the Warp label, I had to check it out. And very impressed was I. I won't compare him to the likes of Autechre (being as how NO ONE can be compared to them), etc. This album just kind of stands on its own as a collection of masterful pieces of music. Maybe that's a bit of an exagerration, but it is very well done nonetheless. The only reason I knocked a star off was because of the fact that, though well done, it is missing something. I can't put my finger on it, which kind of makes this review a bit useless . . .but, oh well. Pick this up though if you enjoy funky beats with good (though a bit melancholy) melodies. Yup, yup."
As good as Autechre and better than a lot

"I've seen a lot of people complain that Brothomstates is just mimicking other Warp label artists. My response is, so what? While it may use some of the same sounds and techniques that other artists have used, it is his own unique work and it sounds good. This album is great. I didn't find out about it until recently and I'm actually pretty stoked about it. This is one of the better albums that I've heard in awhile and in my opinion stands up there with some of Autechre's best. In fact, I would recommend this over Autechre's Confield which came out the same year. I will also go so far as to say it's better than a lot of Aphex Twin's work. If you like artists like Autechre and Plaid, get this, you will like it. Also, check out their Qtio EP, it's great also.

"Seriously. This guy (Nikki Lasso) comes out with two amazing CDs and then nothing! (his first CD is a free download at his website) Brothomstates certainly falls under the generically labeled IDM genre, but still manages to sound unique amongst the many artists labeled in this same genre. I have to admit that at first this all just sounded like a jumbled mess of out-of-sync beats, but after a few repeat listens it made more sense musically. The aspect that makes him stand out to me the most is his transition of one beat style to another within a song. I am sure other artists have done that, but he is the only one that I know of that has.
A part that does make him similar to Autechre is the use of melodies as part of the beat. This is where at first it will sound like some of the songs had random sounds thrown in, which is why the repeat listens are necessary for this album to peel away the melodies embedded deep within some of the songs. The more I listened to this album, the more amazing it sounded. Please, if you own this CD, gave it a listen or two, and did not like it because it sounded incoherent, I implore you to listen to the whole album a few more times. I believe there are complexities to it that are easy to shrug off or go unnoticed to a casual listen of this disc."
