A Great American Tradition & Treasure
TV Engineer | Syracuse, NY United States | 12/19/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album is so good, standard superlatives seem inadequate. I've had the privilege of hearing this choir in person on two occasions, and listening to this music brings back those great memories. There is a beautiful balance of traditional and new Christmas music. You can't go wrong with Carol Cymbala's writing and directing, and Lari Goss' arrangements, as always, have that rich, classic Brooklyn Tab "sound." Long-time Brooklyn Tab soloists such as Wanda Brickner, Charles Allen and others are back again."The Birthday Of A King" has to be the most beautiful rendition of this classic that I've ever heard, and is my pick for the best cut.If you've never heard the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir before, don't be put off by your preconceived notions of what a city church choir sounds like. Listen to this album and you'll hear why they have won several Grammy Awards."
Sacred, passionate, and joyful

"This is choir music at its best. It takes off immediately with the opening number, "It's Christmas", an overwhelmingly joyful and exuberant piece, ending with a portion of "Winter Wonderland". The Christmas Carol Medley is the only truly familiar music here, and the carols are magnificently performed. But the unfamiliar choral works such as "Peace On Earth" and "Light of The World" are each notable. And I don't think you even need to be religious to enjoy this music. If you want a truly great choral CD for Christmas, I highly recommend this."
