January, 2007, saw the birth of The Brooklyn Jazz Underground, a new collective conceived in the spirit of an entrepreneurial, do-it-yourself spirit in the current music industry, and the emergence of myriad independent artists and record labels, spawning a creative boom which counts Brooklyn as one of its bastions of innovation and artistry. The Brooklyn Jazz Underground, a vibrant, thriving, creative group, keeping jazz and improvised music perpetually evolving, proudly announces The 3rd Annual Brooklyn Jazz Underground CD Sampler (Volume 3). It features BJU members leading their ensembles in performances of original music, much of it comprised of new works. Over the last year the critically acclaimed collective has become a charitable organization (presenting benefit concerts to raise funds for DonorsChoose.org, directly benefiting public school music programs), and have presented a weekly residency at the Tea Lounge, providing an outlet for the development and presentation of original works and new ensembles. Spring of 2008 witnessed the launch of BJU Records with new releases from Alexis Cuadrado, Anne Mette Iversen and Benny Lackner!
