Not Just a Matter of Taste - It Really Is Bad

"With all the talent on hand, these guys had the potential for an out-of-the-park homer. Instead, they struck out swinging. For me, the very worst part is the frequent pitch problems, on both the solos and the harmonies. Didn't any of the performers or production crew actually listen to the final recordings? Second worst are the shrill, discordant harmonies on some of the arrangements. While some of it may be pitch again, a lot of it is uncontrolled, undisciplined, improvisational grandstanding. With that many guys singing, you can't let them all go off on their own and ad-lib the harmonies. Third is the arrangements. There was nothing terribly new or exciting, or even all that well thought out. A lot of it was lazy, sloppy, and silly. They didn't take the time to practice and perfect the arrangements or the performances. Maybe this all works for their live audiences, but it renders this CD almost unlistenable."

"A real disappointment. These are among the best singers around. Less is more, guys. Everything from the arrangements to the singing over-reaches. All the wonderful Broadway songs out there that goes unrecorded beyond the OCR and we get The Impossible Dream, Age of Aquarius, Imagine, Defying Gravity, and such. One big exception is Jesse Nager's Mama A Rainbow. Give the many great lesser known songs a chance next time."

"I have seen the Broadway Boys live a few times at Birdland and was wondering if their CD could capture their passion. IT DOES! Broadway, only better. A true pick-me-up and who can't use that?"
