CD Reviews

"New Favourites" Quickly Became a New Favorite.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I found this CD used, and being on the Nick Lowe kick I was (and still am) on, I bought it on a whim because I knew I'd probably never see it IN A STORE again. I realized that I definitely made the right decision. This album is a gem, with hooks galore - from the crash of "What's So Funny..." (check out those harmony swells, BRILLIANT) to the wistful country-pop of "The Look That's In Your Eyes Tonight", to the horn-driven soul of "I Like You, I Don't Love You". My absolute "new" favorites, though, (excluding "What's So Funny") are "The Real Thing" and "Ever Since You've Been Gone". I swear, the latter just does it for me - what a beautiful song (and once again, those harmony swells...this band brings them out of nowhere like tidal waves). To sum it up: I had this album for a month, fell in love with it, and then lost it during during a moment of drunkenness in a Mexican hotel lobby...I've been heartbroken and trying to order it ever since. If you like "Jesus of Cool", get this album (if you like this album, get "Jesus of Cool")."
