CD Reviews

Incomparable voice and music
claudioj | CHILE | 07/14/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"(I'm not an english native speaker, but I'll try to express my opinion in this language, so please forgive the flaws). I really enjoyed this CD because of the sound - accentuated stereo, but not shocking - and voice quality - very good range and sexy texture - perfectly preserved in comparison to some vinyls that I have from the early 60's. I've always been a BB fan and the CD gave me the opportunity to appreciate the quality of her voice in a variety of songs types. At the first listenings I enjoyed more the songs (music and lyrics) most known to me, like "Les Amis de la Musique", "Invitango", "La Madrague", "Pas Davantage" and "Everybody Loves My Baby". But they are all magnificents in my opinion. I'm sure that the songs, specially the french ones, are more enjoyable if you understand the lyrics. For those of you that are interested I have some of the lyrics (songs 1,4,7 and 9; of course I'd like to have the rest). The orchestrations and the players seem very good to me, and this is easy to understand when you realize that the "Direction musicale" of the album, as well as orchestra's director and author of some of the works - "Invitango", "La Madrague", "Noir et Blanc" - is Claude Bolling, a well known jazz oriented musician and piano player too. This CD has, undeniably, the most representative songs of BB in the 60's and an overall quality, no weak points, that deserves the 5 stars."
